Long Trail Downhill
This is one of the best, downhill single-track rides you will ever do.
Begin at the top of the Zephyr Chairlift. Ride downhill and follow the signs to Long Trail. Ride Long Trail down, crossing the service road at the bottom of the High Lonesome lift. Pick up Long Trail again on the far side of the road. Winding through the woods, you will have brief periods of uphill riding to keep you rolling and change the pace and feel of the terrain. You will cross under the Pioneer Express lift. Continue downhill across a bridge and a small stream. Your next intersection will be Lonesome Whistle. Continue straight through the intersection. There is a slight uphill section bringing you out onto a ski run. Continue uphill to the 5 Points Intersection where there is a porta-potty and weather tent.
At 5 Points, climb a few hundred yards on the service road to your left and look for the sign to Long Trail on your right. This section of the trail crosses over several ski runs off the Prospector lift. You will cross a dirt service road. Follow the trail as it winds over more ski runs and into the trees. Watch your speed on the switchbacks and avoid skidding. After another dirt road crossing, the trail goes behind the Eskimo lift, crosses over Turnpike and descends slightly. Pick up the trail on the far side of the service road. The trail then goes left back into the woods for a really fun section through lodgepole pine. Your last road crossing is the 300 Yard Walk. The bottom part of Long Trail goes under the Nordic jump and around large pines until you reach Turnpike. Turn right onto Turnpike and return to the base.
Note: This popular downhill is not only a fun single track, but also a nice way to see a large part of the Winter Park Resort ski runs in the summer.
