Long Trail to Town of Winter Park

long-trail-sm

This may be one of the longest downhill runs that you will ever do. Starting at the top of Zephyr lift, you will descend on some favorite trails to the town of Winter Park.

Start from the top of Zephyr lift. Ride downhill and follow the signs to Long Trail. Ride Long Trail down, cross the service road at the bottom of High Lonesome lift, pick up Long Trail again on the far side of the road. The trail winds through the woods with brief periods of uphill to keep you alert. You will cross under Pioneer lift. Continue downhill across a bridge and a small stream. Your next intersection will be Lonesome Whistle. Turn left onto Lonesome Whistle, a short single track that is just above the bottom of Pioneer lift. Watch your speed. This trail has some good “whoop de dos” that can catch you off guard and launch you into tomorrow if you are not paying attention. Turn left at the bottom of Lonesome Whistle onto a service road. Continue past the bottom of Mountain Goat Trail. Take the next left onto Little Vasquez. You are now leaving Winter Park Resort. Continue on Little Vasquez to your next intersection, turn right and continue downhill. The trail will become faster and harder as large and loose rocks become the norm. You will exit onto Tunnel Hill Road. Turn right onto Tunnel Hill Road and take the next left onto Little Vasquez Road. Little Vasquez is a jeep road that is very smooth at the beginning but becomes gradually rockier as you go on. You will cross under a large, green water-diversion pipe. Continue downhill past the bottom of Chickadee, Blue Sky and the intersection of Ice Hill. The dirt road will end and will bring you onto Arapaho Road in the town of Winter Park. Arapaho Road ends at Vasquez Road. Turn right on Vasquez Road to bring you back into downtown Winter Park. Vasquez Road will end at the traffic light at Hwy 40. Cross Hwy 40, turn right on Fraser Valley River Trail to ride back to Winter Park Resort.
