BEDA
Grand County Business and Economic Development Association (BEDA) was established in 2004 by a group of local business leaders and community members responding to a need for financial assistance to small businesses. The initial goal was to establish a revolving loan program through a grant secured from the U.S.D.A. to provide businesses in Grand County with financial assistance for improvements and expansion. www.gcbeda.com
Grand County Businesses Without Borders
Grand County Businesses Without Borders (GCBWB) is a coalition of Grand County, Colorado business owners who believe that independent businesses build strong communities. This coalition works to sustain quality of life in Grand County, Colorado by preventing the displacement of locally owned,
independent businesses.
It is this coalition’s hope to heighten public awareness of the value that small businesses bring to local communities by ensuring the ongoing opportunities for entrepreneurs as well as advancing citizen engagement in directing the development of their mountain community. The Grand Foundation
The Grand Foundation is a community foundation that supports nonprofit and service organizations in Grand County that provide services, activities, and programs in the areas of health and human services, arts and culture, education, environment, and amateur sports. The Grand Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life in Grand County by proactively addressing current and future needs in these areas. Founded in 1996 as the Columbine Foundation, it changed its name to the Grand Foundation in 2001 to highlight the fact that it is a community foundation serving all of Grand County, from Kremmling to Grand Lake to Winter Park. Since its inception, The Grand Foundation, has awarded out over $1.7 million in grants to qualified Grand County non-profits and organizations, touching thousands of lives. www.grandfoundation.com
Rotary
Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
The benefits of being a Rotarian include serving the community, networking and friendship, and promoting ethics and leadership skills.
Local community projects include: club literacy projects, Fraser River Adopt-A-River Project, Adopt-A-Highway Project, and The Eisenhower Project.
- The Rotary Club of Winter Park-Fraser Valley meets at the Beaver Village Lodge Tuesdays at noon. Visitors are welcome.
- The Rotary Club of Granby meets at Creekside Grill in The Silvercreek Inn Wednesdays at noon.
- The Rotary Club of Grand Lake meets at the The Bears Den, 612 Grand Ave., Grand Lake, Tuesdays at 7pm.
- The Rotary Club of Kremmling meets at at the elementary/middle school in the Cathy Shapeley Room, Wednesdays at 6:00pm.
Lions Club
The Lions Club meets the needs of local communities and the world. Its more than 1.3 million members in 205 countries and geographic areas are different in many ways but they share a core belief – community is what we make it.
The 45,000 clubs make Lions the world’s largest service club organization. There are close to 100 members in the Fraser Valley chapter.
Famous for their pancake breakfasts held each year at the ArtAffair in Winter Park, and annual Christmas tree sales, the club also hosts the Arapahoe National Forest campgrounds in the Fraser River Valley. The club stocks and maintains fishing ponds near Safeway in Fraser used by youth and disabled anglers as well as tourists and local fishermen. The club hosts the 9Health Fair each year. The club also has a college scholarship program for local high school students. Charities funded by the Fraser River Valley Lions include Advocates (domestic violence), GCRY (drug education), and Mountain Family Center (aid to needy families).
The Fraser Valley Lions meet the first and third Thursday of each month for a breakfast meeting at 7:30am at the Crooked Creek Saloon in Fraser. www.fraservalleylions.org
